National E-Strategies: Key Issues and Actions

Summary

Date
: 7 May 2008
Location:  UN Headquarters New York, Conference Room  C

Objectives

This one-day seminar will build on the high-level retreat outside New York City on 5-6 May 2008, entitled "ICT4D 2.0 – Defining a way forward: Key Issues in Formulating and Implementing National E-Strategies" which gathered Ministry of ICT representatives and senior-level diplomats. It will present the main issues, recommendations and outcomes that emerged from the retreat. In parallel, it will offer a series of case studies reflecting different models for successfully implementing national e-strategies on the ground. A round-table discussion will follow each session.

The objective of the seminar is to build on the insights from the high-level retreat by involving a more expansive and diverse set of voices from the private sector, civil society, and academia, in order to discuss the opportunities presented by ICT4D 2.0 and define a way forward for how ICT can support the achievement of the internationally agreed development goals including the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
