WIPO/UNITAR Seminar: International Intellectual Property

Objectives


The main objective of the seminar was to familiarize mission delegates based in New York about the critical importance of issues surrounding intellectual property and its impact on societies and development. It also aimed to expose the participants to the role of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in promoting intellectual property rights and transfer of technology. The seminar intended to provide an in-depth analysis of intellectual property treaties and new and emerging intellectual property issues.

The seminar focused on the following:
  • An overview of the concept, historical development and future trends in international property rights;
  • WIPO’s programme of economic development as well as services provided by the Organization to its Member States.

Additional Information

Organisation:
The seminar was conducted in one session on 25 March 2008. It consisted of a series of presentations by a team of experts and practitioners from WIPO, academia and the private sector; ample time will be provided for questions and answers on the topics under discussion.

Participants:
The seminar was designed for members of permanent missions based in New York. WIPO and UNITAR thus reserve the right to make a selection among the candidates if necessary.
