This event will act as a preparatory session for the Global Forum: "Youth and ICT as Agents of Change" taking place in Geneva from 24-26 September 2007. Youth participants and speakers will interact with experts on ICT for Development issues from the UN community as well as the public and private sectors. The focus of the seminar will be to provide a forum for learning and meaningful information exchanges among youth and the diplomatic community. Particular emphasis will be placed on the value of youth-driven innovation as a potential driver of development. In addition, an introduction to the international ICT policy framework and the work of the upcoming Forum will be followed by a set of case studies highlighting ICT projects by and for youth in developing countries.

Objectives
  • To provide a forum for discussion and learning on the potential contributions of youth-driven ICT projects to economic, social and cultural development efforts;
  • To outline the current ICT political and legal frameworks pertaining to youth in preparation for the upcoming Global Forum on Youth and ICT for Development;
  • To provide case study examples of ICT projects by and for youth, particularly in developing countries;
  • To increase the visibility and relevance of the issue via a live webcast of the event to a global audience;
  • To produce from seminar outcomes a set of preparatory materials for youth participants of the Global Forum on Youth and ICT for Development.
